While PV is more commonly associated with roofing applications rather than attaching standard PV panels to existing roof structures (known as Building Adapted PV), PV can now be incorporated into the structure of teh roof. Roofs are ideally suited to PV integration; usually there is less of a shading issue at roof height than at ground level and roofs often provide a large unused surface area

With pitched roofs, in addition to attaching standard panels on top of existing structures there also are more elegant solutions in the form of PV roof tiles/shingles or where large PV modules form the roof membranes.

On flat roofs, which usually have the benefit of being easily accessible, low cost PV modules can be attached or where low weight flexible PV membranes can be directly laid onto the roof structure
